BREW PARTNERS SHARE BEER SPOILS

Their new brewery isn’t yet ready for use but already it has a fine trophy cabinet in one corner

WA craft beer powers Feral and Nail dominated the Perth Royal Beer Show ensuring their shift up the road will be marked on a high.

The two companies, as an entity called Brewcorp, have shared a facility in Bassendean for three years. But their growth has forced them into new premises that should be operational next week.

Feral won the crown for Best Commercial Brewery and Best WA Brewery at the awards, which included 650 beers up for judging.

The crew also collected a trophy for Best Reduced Alcohol Beer for their Runt, American Pale Ale.

The awards were collected by Feral’s Baskerville-based brewer Will Irving as founder Brendan Varis was on a fact finding mission in Germany.

Nail’s founder John Stallwood was recognised by the Royal Agricultural Society of WA before the proceedings for his 10-year service to the awards. Chief steward Nevil Alexander and brewing veteran Roger Bussell were also acknowledged.

Later Nail was awarded the trophies for Best Packaged and Best Draught Stout for Clout Stout 2015. Their Red also got the Best Ale Packaged prize.

Clout Stout is a Russian Imperial Stout brewed annually since 2010 when it was first brewed to celebrate 10 years of Nail Brewing. Its very rich and complex malts make for a luxurious experience with every sip, the beer can be enjoyed straight away or cellar for later. This beer also was awarded a gold medal at last month's Royal Adelaide Beer Show.

Gage Road’s Little Dove continued its award-winning run, adding the Best Ale Draught prize to the list.

The Best Wheat Beer Packaged trophy went to Billabong Brewing for Billabong Wheat.
