Hear beer from brew great Charlie Bamforth

A lot of big name stars don’t come to Perth.

The Beatles gave us a miss in 1964, Madonna flicked the State off her touring list two years ago and even Cricket Australia forgot about WA when devising the Test match calendar in 2014-15.

But one of brewing’s biggest names is definitely heading west and anybody interested in the wonder nectar can have a chance to hear him impart his wisdom later this month.

Brewing scientist, researcher, author and raconteur Charlie Bamforth might well be a keynote speaker at the Australian Craft Beer Conference in Adelaide next week.

However, his appearance at a special event in Perth will be more intimate and a better way to get inside this great beer mind.

The Sip Beer Laboratory podcast.

Bamforth will be the guest at an Institute of Brewing and Distilling Ales and Tales dinner to be held at the Northbridge Brewing Company on Monday July 31.

Originally from the UK, Bamforth spends considerable time at the University of California, Davis, where he continues to pass on 50 years of beer knowledge.

Bamforth is also a Fellow of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, a Fellow of the Society of Biology, a Fellow of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology and is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Society of Brewing Chemists.

He’s also written more books on beer than some drinkers have read.

Bamforth will hold court for more than three hours at the Perth dinner.

Tickets for Ales and Tales are $75 for IBD members and $85 for non-member and can be purchased via this link.
